Rattlesnake Ledge - GWHWA
May’s official hike for GWHWA was at the infamous Rattlesnake Ledge. We made a good call of starting earlier than planned after finding out that it was going to be a warm, sunny Saturday. By pushing up the start time, we got to the parking lot at 7:30am and it was already busy, but we we able to snag a spot. The trailhead was BUSTLING with people - it felt like we were at Disneyland. Some of us were dreading the traffic on the trails, but we had a few members who had never hiked this trail before, so we persevered.
The hike wasn’t as bad as we were expecting. We maintained a fairly fast pace for a group of eight and made it to the summit in an hour. The summit was CROWDED. Imagine the seagulls from Finding Nemo all perched on a rocky cliff. If you plan on visiting Rattlesnake, be prepared to share the summit if it’s nice out, regardless of the weather forecast.
We took another hour to head back down the trail to the trailhead, and our group ended up merging with multiple other groups so that we ended up with a MASSIVE line of people marching down the mountain in a relatively organized single-file line. It was probably the busiest trail I’ve ever been on.
