Healthy Living Doesn't Have to be Expensive

Healthy Living Doesn't Have to be Expensive

I'm always looking for ways to save money on groceries, because I don't have a money tree in my backyard but I also don't think my body should suffer because of it. You've probably seen my ideas for meal prepping on a budget and read my blogs about budget friendly grocery shopping, and now I'm adding one more suggestion to the mix: Sprouts Farmers Market. You may be aware of their new store opening up in Mill Creek next month, (if not, check this out), but there are so many of you who already have a Sprouts near you; whether you already have one nearby, or are (im)patiently waiting for the first Washington store to open, let me tell you about how they strive to make healthy living accessible for everyone.

There are so many ways that you can save at a Sprouts store, and let me add that a HUGE chunk of the store is on promotion at any given time, so you are never more than an arm's reach away from a healthy product at a value price when you're cruising through the aisles.

I've already mentioned that I'm super excited to check out their farm-fresh produce (hello smoothie bowls), but because I go through pounds and pounds of fruits and vegetables each week, my grocery bills have started to creep up and up the more organic I go or the more uncommon produce I add to my cart. Sprouts' produce averages 20-25% below supermarket prices, and with stores already competing for "low" prices, that means a lot to hear that a store is not only offering great prices, they're not sacrificing the quality of their product in order to do so.

My smoothie bowls are never complete until I've added some of my favorite toppings, which, besides more fruit, are honey and granola. Granola can be so incredibly expensive, especially if you try to get ones that aren't loaded with sugar and in fancy eye-catching packaging, so I've recently started buying my granola in bulk and storing it in air-tight containers at home. Sprouts has a huge bulk foods department that has so. many. things. Beans, grains, spices, nuts, sweets, GRANOLA, just to name a few. And because you're not paying for brand packaging and have full control over how much you're buying, you can save some moolah for other delicious goodies you may find around the store.

One more thing to add - with technology at our fingertips, paper coupons are starting to become a thing of the past. No more carrying around folders and flipping through your clip of coupons while you shop (does anybody remember those red coupon machines that dispense coupons as you walk by them?), Sprouts has an app that let's you do all the coupon clipping on your phone, plan your grocery visit, and you get to show the cashier a custom barcode for them to scan and ALL your savings will be applied in just a few seconds. I've linked a playlist below where they teach you all about the app and how to use it, be sure to check it out!

Yes, you heard me, Sprouts has their own brand! They've got products that cover the bases of healthy living: natural and organic products, gluten-free items, vegan-friendly items, and non-GMO goods. Their buyers work extremely hard to customize flavor profiles and ensure that all their ingredients suit Sprouts' standards for quality, taste, and value. They're also very innovative when it comes to coming up with products to add to their brand. Seasonal items, grocery essentials, and even hopping on the trend wagon so that their customers aren't missing out on any new craze or getting bored with old stuff.

Sprouts sent me a package of Sprouts brand products to try, and believe me when I say that I jumped right in and tried just about everything. I would take way too long to gush about each individual item they sent me, but I'll just highlight a few of my favorites. Even though this post was sponsored and I received these items as a gift from Sprouts, my reviews on the items are genuine and honest - no fluffing here.

Sprouts All Natural Beef Jerky (Hatch Pepper Flavor) - OH. MY. GOODNESS. I'm a VERY picky beef jerky person, and absolutely hate it when the jerky is so dry that I feel like I took a bite of my tire and tried to chew it up. I brought this pack of jerky with me on a recent hike, and as soon as I took my first bite after about three hours of climbing up an exposed rock face trail in 80°F heat, my self control went out the window. The meat was tender, slightly sweet, with the right burst flavor that complimented the beef (which is 100% grass fed, by the way) without overpowering it. Needless to say, I finished the entire package in one sitting at the top of the mountain. NO REGRETS.

Sprouts Chocolate Flavored Coconut Rolls - Yeah buddy! These are just *kisses fingertips* perfection and dangerously addictive. I'm already a fan of coconut rolls or any kind of crispy thin wafer roll, so I wasn't surprised when I tasted these and reached in the bag for more. The thing I like most about these, though, is that they don't taste sickly-sweet like some other rolls do. Don't get me wrong, I do love me a good, indulgent version, but they tend to leave an artificial aftertaste and that icky feeling I get from eating too many sweets. These didn't do that. I ate a handful (I'm actually impressed that I was able to stop myself), and didn't need to go brush my tongue to get rid of any nasty aftertaste. I can't wait to try the original ones, too!

Sprouts? Deals? You got it - Sprouts' grand opening in Mill Creek on August 15 is of course going to come with some awesome deals. And if you can't make it on grand opening day (August 15 is a Wednesday), they'll have deals all weekend, too. I've outlined them below:

  • Delicious muffin and coffee samples will be served to everyone in line before the doors open.
