NYC - Day 2 Recap
The NYC Subway
I made the mistake of buying a single ride ticket instead of a metro card, not that it makes a huge difference in price, but seeing that I was going to be needing a few rides I might as well have gotten a multiple use card. Each ride was $2.75, which adds up quite quickly when you need to transfer and sight see in between stops, but it was the most reliable and least time consuming mode of transportation in my opinion, and I actually enjoy them so it was my preferred method of travel if I wasn’t walking.
I did end up doing a lot of walking during this trip, hitting upwards of 20,000+ steps per day (about 8-9 miles on average).
American Museum of Natural History
This museum is awesome, and definitely worth the visit if you can stop by. Well, I shouldn’t say “stop by” since you really need at least a few hours, maybe half a day (or a whole day if you want to check out Central Park while you’re in the area).
You can opt to purchase tickets in advance online, or at an automated kiosk in the lobby. If you purchase them this way, you will be asked to pay the standard price (adults were $22 I believe, and students were $18, which is what I paid). If you don’t have advance tickets, you can walk up to the counter and actually pay what you want, which is a pretty nice thing to do. I just can’t bring myself to offer much less for a museum, and I honestly probably would have given them a $20, so I ended up saving a couple dollars going to the machine.
You’ll want to pick up a map from the information desk on the left (I believe it’s the south end of the lobby) before heading in, or else you’ll end up walking in circles and likely missing a few wings or floors of the building.
I spent about three hours at the museum and didn’t get to see everything I wanted to, but I had somewhere to be in the early afternoon so I unfortunately had to leave. Guess that just means I’ll have to go back to NYC!
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
This was such an incredible experience! The guests of the taping I went to were Mariska Hargitay and Ice T from Law & Order SVU (one of my favorite shows), Macaulay Culkin, and the muscial performers were J.I.D featuring BJ the Chicago Kid and Thundercat (what a mouthful). I will make a separate video and blog post with all the details of how I got tickets, what the taping was like, and my whole experience with the show, so stay tuned for that! I’ll try to have it out in the next week.
